I've often wondered what the real NS fans kept calling the 'usual 50'. This thread seems to indicate that I'd never upset any of you as I've never heard of any of the tracks mentioned! As a Londoner, I'd always imagined that I'd be crucified by you guys for not understanding the minute detail of NS. My play lists are mostly early to mid 60s and I'd assumed you were referring to that era as it was oldest. Perhaps I should chance my arm (and play lists)north of the Thames.

Interesting post, Alan I'd like to hear a few of your favourites. Just goes to show what a broad range of music exists within this genre. Personally, with a couple of obvious exceptions (and a couple I've not heard of), I would be happy to hear any of the tracks mentioned on this thread if I was out on a Saturday night.. But, as the saying goes: "One man's meat is another man's poison". The club I frequent has a"connoisseur's" room where they play mostly modern stuff. I stick my head in a few times each night - there's always something good playing, although I usually don't know it. I hang around for a track or two and then find myself drifting back to the main room for the more "mainstream" stuff (if there is such a thing). Does this make me a Dinosaur?
Anyway, I'd like to add to this list a personal favourite of mine: Carla Thomas - I'll never stop loving you.

Cracking choice "saddler" I started this thread to prove what you and Alan have stated previously - wide spectrum different strokes etc etc I was just fed up with folk stating things/very opinionated and then get a chance to prove it n fail miserably ;D Maybe some egos like to batter the rest of us into thinking we've got it wrong? To each his own I say - I like a cross section, can sing better than dance these daze ;D if you love the music go with it. I make time for deep, modern, southern, sweet, doowop, rnb - its all soul to me

I hope afcgotsoul doesn't see this list alan because if he does he'll be drowning in a sea of nostalgia!! Some absolute classics here and probably most of them are ineligible for the 'same ole' thread but what the hell is 'Finding Out The hard Way' by the Temptations??

I wrote that list at work, without much thought. I'm at work now and can't concentrate because I really can't remember who recorded Finding Out The Hard Way. Of course, it is now the tune I can't get out of my head!!! Was it Billy Butler? Could have been Billy Bunter for all I know now! Bugger!

Before I got married, back in 73, I used to drive an MGB Roadster with wire wheels and butterfly wing nuts. (after marriage, I drove a rusty Mark 3 Cortina with child seats in the back. Curtis, Smokey and the rest never mentioned that would happen in any of their songs!) It is doubly satisfying that MGTF put me out of my misery with the Vibrations. Is that track on a CD, does anybody know?

Think its on Okeh Up North - will have to check m8 later. Also not sure but thought Vibrations had their own CD out? Some clever knowledgeable folk will confirm no doubt during a Suprise Party For Baby! ;D
