Thought I'd join in and see what you think...here goes, as of this past two weeks, the five most in my head and driving everyone in my house mad are: 1. LINDA JONES - Just Can't Live My Life 2. PRAYING - Harold Melvin 3. ANTHONY WHITE - Hey Baby 4. LYN VERNARDO - Wash and Wear Love 5. BOBBY WOMACK - Home Is Where The Heart Is ...as ever, it'll all change next week!

Deon Jackson - That's what you do to me Mill Evans - Why why why Patrice Holloway - Stolen hours Shades of Blue - A way to love you Fred Hughes - Don't let me down On continual loop at the moment. I love Deon Jackson's voice. It's not the purest, it's not the most technical - I just love it.

Ooh Baby is the best. I bought that on English red Atlantic as it was issued in '67 I think. The 'B' side is good as well - "All on a sunny day". Billysbag has just sold it for me but good news is, I recommended my brother-in-law to buy one as well and he still has it.
So that will be available soon when he makes his list. As I said on other threads - there are far more people out there with records to be uncovered than you can possibly imagine. But mostly what was issued in the UK naturally. So look out for some price cuts as time goes on. I knew 10s of people in Wolverhampton alone, that bought 584118 or was it 584116. I'll leave you to find out the tune..............

:)Hi Brian, was never a buyer of UK issues no idea why? had this on the Carla label and basically gave it away many years ago, oh for a time machine, anyhow how much is it worth now? can't place the 'all on a sunny day' but another good track is 'thats what you do to me'. I supposed that 584118 was on the Atlantic which of course it is, thats another record you couldn't give away at one time now its popular (big couple of years ago) and appears to be rising in price again. I have a copy if anyone wants it, sadly it has a chunk out of it courtesy of the postie or someone on the mail This is the only record I have purchased from the states that has arrived broken. Oh Soul Bros Six. Added 21/10/06 What a numpty I am of course you know 'but another good track is 'thats what you do to me'. as it's your number one above. LOL

Come on you two, start talking issue numbers and you'll get exiled to the 'SERIOUS' section!! Mind you I'm enjoying the thread. I don't know whether you intended to draw attention to BOTH 584116 AND 584118 but let's be fair they are both pieces of quality soul from that 'summer of love' 1967. It's amazing today to look at just the items from the Atlantic catalogue that were released between May and September of that year, none of which nudged the U.K. top fifty. For me the top five are:- 584106 Tears, Tears, Tears Ben E. King. (Loved it at the time, had forgotten it, and was good to hear coops play it.) 584108 Out Of Left Field Percy Sledge Masterpiece!! 584116 Thank You John/Walking Up A One Way Street Willie Tee 584118 Some Kind Of Wonderful/I'll Be Loving You Soul Brothers Six 584120 Angel Baby Darrell Banks Problem at the time was that perhaps the most memorable of these recordings are both 'b' sides and were easy to overlook. I could never understand Atlantic re-issuing the Soul Brother Six plodding 'Some Kind Of Wonderful' just a couple of years later as an 'a' side but without 'I'll Be Loving You' on the reverse'. (Did any of the U.S. singles by Soul Brother Six come out with a picture sleeve or was it just the Soul Clan? Rumour has it they wore their blonde hair stacked up in a bouffant style!!! - not started by me.) Atlantic did however reap some rewards in the U.K. that summer via two white groups, The Rascals and Vanilla Fudge, and the first U.K. hits for Aretha. Some justice eh! Agree with you both about Deon Jacksons voice, but maybe it's that Chris Bartley style tempo that appeals just as much.

You're right about the tempo. It's that "slow lazy clap from the waist up" type of feel.
I actually meant Willie Tee. But as we've said before Soul Brothers Six is something else. I ordered the Willie Tee from WH Smith in Wolverhampton and others used to go in and ask what I'd ordered and do the same (locally we charted it between us). So one day I ordered Steam - Na na hey hey kiss him goodbye (probably the day after it was issued)- and didn't pick up my copy. That ended it.
But I'd pretty much finished buying records by then. I felt my kind of music was on it's way out.
Chris Bartley; Cameo here and Vando there right ? How many issues on Cameo though ? (not a quiz - I just don't know; no need to mention the serials!).

:)Chris Bartley? before my time but he rings a bell did he have a hit 'Sweet' something or other, I suppose I could look me up on google? but its more interesting reading it on here. Brian:- so how did you meet Willie Tee then? Once nearly knocked down Kevin Keegan when he was the Newcastle Manager but that's about the only celeb I've met. Oh apart from Dave Godin and I suppose we will get censored by Nick for going off topic !!!!! so here's my 'top 5 records I am listing this week 1. Major Lance You don't want me no more Okeh 2. Della Reese Yes indeed Allegro 3. Stevie Wonder never had a dream come true Motown 4.Smokey Robinson ain't it baby Motown 5. Liz Cass Can't help loving dat man web

That's what happens to me if I try to respond near midnight Steve. Read Brian's post again - he's not made a typing error, but it shows what can happen if you do!! As for Chris Bartley, he's certainly not before your time, he had U.K. releases in '75 and '86. To be fair the last one on Move was a 12" e.p. of his earlier stuff. You're right about his first release it was on Cameo Parkway 'The Sweetest Thing This Side Of Heaven', another summer of '67 release. All of his work at that time was written and produced by Van McCoy so does have some pedigree. I suppose their is a 'sameness' about most of his output. A 45 on Bell from 1968 'I Found A Goodie' and an outing on Dave Godin's Right On label from 1975 'I See Your Name'. I'll need to dig 'em out and give them another play but I recall them all being very pleasantly mid tempo and worth a listen.

I could borrow my old Direction UK copy back off Bill (if he'll let it go) and mp3 it.
As a last resort.
ps I like Jr. Walker too but I don't know the Sweet Daddy Deacon track either. Short-sighted I know but when I was buying records 35/6 was reserved for special cases.

Steve, "Once nearly knocked down Kevin Keegan when he was the Newcastle Manager but that's about the only celeb I've met. Oh apart from Dave Godin."
That's a classic - "apart from" moment. Like "apart from that - how did you enjoy your stay at our hotel Mr. Tebbitt ?"
Met KK and all the Newcastle players one Sunday morning in the Swallow hotel up your way. Had been to a wedding on the Saturday night there and they were staying the night prior to playing Wednesday on the Sunday. My wife was stuck in the lift with Beresford and Barton. I'm not sure what defensive formation she adopted though.

ACT4500 - Give me one more chance / Get it.
I expect the Aphrodisiac issue was the same.
