Had a great time last night as i had the pleasure of being invited to do a guest spot at Grafton house. After Chrissy an i had navigated the one way system around Lincoln for the third time we arrived at a venue which was straight out of the old school northern venue book. You know the type, being able to here the music outside,no fancy neon lights above the door etc and barstaff that were older than your parents. We were greeted by the lovely Sis herself and straight from the off was appologising for the lack of people due to another venue being on down the road!.There was no need as anyone who knows me knows i am there for myself and no-one else.If you leave your home thinking you are going to have a crap night you will.Had the pleasure of meeting Midge there who played some great tunes for wich ill be trawling e-bay for later:). The dancefloor was spot on for me and the company even better,as always its a joy to chat to Chris dalton as he is a sound guy and never changes. I managed to bumble my way through my spot and drunk far too much beer but had a fab time.I would recomend the venue to anyone as i bet at capacity it would be bouncing and this is why i want such a huge plaster. Come on Lincoln it,s not hard really to organise yourselves around each others venues. For those who weren,t there you missed a good night and those who were thanks for supporting my spot.Would love a return trip if only to get more cd,s off Den&wendy (thanks guys). kim

Kim Lovely to meet you and your good lady last night and to hear your set. A truly eclectic choice of quality tunes, including several that were new to me personally, just how I like my nights out to be. I too was lucky enough to finally meet Den & Wendy properly after seeing them often at various venues around the region and have spent this morning listening to the CD's they gave me, Thanks from me too guys.

I would just like to say many many thanks to Kim and Midge for what was a fantastic nite musically, it was really great to have you guys there. Kim you will be welcomed back with open arms, but it will have to make it sooner than later. At this moment in time, it regrets me to have to say I cannot forsee ELSC surviving much longer. Things in this world of ours are not always as they seem any longer, and once to promote, organise and partake in a venue was a pleasure, it now has become a chore.... and i rued the day I said that!!! When Djays such as yourselves and others whom share the love and vision of a music the same as me, over a nearly 5 year period play to a near on empty venue is soul destroying for me. Unfortunately last nite after many of you had gone home Trev was badly assaulted, so much to the point of 2 hospital trips after injuries to his face and head particularly his eye and jaw and teeth. Due to the above and lack of trust I now have within this scene, I am all ready for saying my goodbyes and walking away. Dawn

It goes without saying i wish the Rev well and a speedy recovery. As for you Dawn, keep fighting kiddo because the venue is worth fighting for.We had a similar situation in Scarboro where we didnt get the support from many of the locals only to find that when we closed everyone complained that we had. I have said this many times on here but when you get a few venues in the same town/city instead of trying to outdo each other set them up so you go from one to the other. Anyone who has met you knows where your heart lies and it would be a huge empty space to fill if you stopped. keep on bouncin kim

I am really sorry to hear this and send our good wishes to Trev and hope he is back in action very soon Assuming this assault was not by someone who frequents northern nights were they caught and duly dealt with ? As for giving up it is nothing you have done wrong so why should you be driven out, I totally understand when numbers are down how it can depress you after all the hard work promoting it, you had lots of competition on that night by the looks of the events calendar so it was to be expected and the new one at Grantham I am sure did more to take away regulars than anything else in Lincoln. I will PM you as my soapbox is getting higher by the minute.

This has come as a bit of a shock to me because i know how much hard work you've both put into ELSC every month for the last 5 years. Like you say Dawn, promoting etc can become a chore which is one of the reasons i only do 2 or 3 nights a year and try to vary the venue - if possible-to try and keep the nights" exciting" whilst hoping to attract a new mix of people who may prefer a different venue.Of course Lincoln is well short of decent venues plus regular Sat.night clubs like ELSC have to compete with top class live music every week at the Uni just 1 mile away.Very difficult to attract young students away from the subsidised campus. I don't know the answer unless you try cutting down your number of nights in the year. As to what happened to Trev it beggars belief. Hope the person involved gets blanked by all the other good people whom i suspect will know him from your nights. I'm sure in time things that seem so bad now will slowly improve and you'll be "up"again to take your place as the Queen of Northern Soul in Lincoln.KTF has never been more appropriate. Glennx

Dawn I am left shaken after reading the news about Trev being hurt. I've been around the soul scene a long time like the majority of members here and this kind of incident is thankfully extremely rare. Please do not let this be the end of the Grafton mate, there are those of us that will offer our support, and any help we can to keep it going. Although I do travel I also want a local venue and I would prefer it if it were the Grafton. Give my Best Wishes to Trev for a speedy recovery, anything I can do email me or give me a bell.

Dawn I am gutted please pass on my best and the best of the white socks to Trev. As for you standing down DON’T the Grafton is a great venue and if I or any of the crew from Retford can help all you need to do is ask, that’s what our partnership is about. Chin up gal you still have brothers and sisters out there who will support you. Love from Rosie your little soul sis to you and the rev. Ps: Hope to have some good news for you by the weekend. Pete

I saw the pics you posted elsewhere yesterday morning... sickening! I hope the police are aware of it. Very best wishes to both of you and I hope Trev recovers quickly. I understand why you are thinking of jacking it in, but wait a while. It would be a shame if the trouble makers win and I hope the assailant is shunned by every venue.

i am not condoning violence, i am not defending any actions taken by anyone but there are two sides to a story, i have heard both sides, i will make NO comment, but, perhaps others should endeavor to hear both sides and THEN pass comment...... just saying. in fact, i hope this DOES go to court and then ALL WILL BE OUT IN THE OPEN and we ALL can have a balanced view of the sorrowful event. until then perhaps we can put our pre-judgemental lynch ropes away?

Not sure if that's directed to me, but where are these "lynch ropes" of which you speak? Two sides to every story indeed, so put the other side if you feel it mitigates the violence. Personally, I think we are all old enough now to sort out differences in a civilised way and I can only abhor violence of this degree irrespective of the circumstances.

No calls for a lynching in my post just shock that this kind of thing can happen. Violence is just not an acceptable part of ANY social gathering in my opinion.
