Steve, See you are on line at the moment. So how did you like Seville ? I was there August 2005. That's a hot city. My wife wished she had a horse to get up the Cathedral tower like the Muezzin had when it was Moorish and he went up to call to prayers. Found a fantastic tapas bar on the street running along the north side of the Cathedral (it was on a corner site), all wood interior and beautiful food and even more beautiful air-con. Eat and then go outside and hit the wall.

:)Sorry Bri, must have logged off before I saw your message, extremely busy at the moment and only got time to pay fleeting visits, but enjoying the Motown thread. Seville as always was great, the best time to go is March/April as its cooler, like you we first went in Summer (July) and it was like walking in an oven (43 degrees). The Tapas bar you mention sounds like our favourite place and we go there and a smaller bar just up the road whenever we go. Can't remember its name but as you say it's superb. Did you go on the open top bus tour? that's akin to sitting in a frying pan for an hour. My sister lives about 80km north of Seville in the La Sierras at a place near Aracena so £40 flights from Liverpool, £60 car hire makes for cheap holidays.

No worries - it's expected.
The 34000 who were at WHL the other night to see THFC play Braga in the EUFA cup could each take the mick personally out of one of the Arsenal fans who were at the Emirates the same night to see the Arsenal babies play MUFC babies.
But 4000 Arsenal fans would go home mickey-free.
Having said all that I alwas tell my son, a Gooner too, that one of the best teams I ever saw was the THFC side of 60/61. No really. John White, Bobby Smith, etc. etc.
That was one to be proud of.
Just as I was proud of our lads at WHL when we won the league. Spurs fans running round like they'd won the cup final only to find that Chelsea hadn't won and a draw was good enough for us.
I used to take my lad to West Brom when he was very small (crush barrier sitting) and Martin Jol was playing for the Albion.
If the Premiership was a punch-up between the Managers, Martin Jol would be up there in a Champion's league place. But it's not.
ps Berbatov looks really good, it pains me to say.

Maybe you won't have to do it much longer.
One rumour is - he's gone and Eto'o is in.
And there's a piece of me that thinks that might be right for the club.
It's not a very big piece at the moment - but if you believe that Wenger does what he feels is best for the club (ask Vieira) you could argue that he feels a Champion's League place is assured for next season and Thierry Henry (with 3 years or so to go on his contract) is well worth sitting out the rest of the season to protect a £20 million plus income. A cynic might say the deal is already done.
Who knows ?
In 1961 I was a 13 year old living in Wembley. Every cup final day we would go down Wembley Way trying to make a few quid and I got a job with a tout where I found the punters and took them to him so he could make a judgement from a distance whether to sell or not. I was on a little commission. Made more that day than my Dad in 2 weeks. Plus after the game we used to go in and scavenge the seating areas for half crowns, programmes and anything else that was dropped. More cash. Happy days.
Don't know if you know this but Tottenham beat Crewe Alexandra at WHL that year 13-2 in a replay in one of the earlier rounds. Story was that Crewe arrived at Euston on platform 2 and left by platform 13.

my dad keeps going on about the 61 side. says they won the league before they started on the cup. still, i bet they didnt go the whole season without losing would barcelona still be as keen to buy tierry after he turned them down before? it would be a real shame to lose him from the premiership though

You listen to your Dad - Dad's know. Especially when they've got grey hair. Well - that's what I tell my son anyway. They are a business and will make the best decision for the business. Longshot- but they may even see him as bait for Fabregas in a year or two. His 2006/7 season has been his worst - obviously. I saw him make his debut as a sub v Leicester and although promising you just couldn't have predicted what's happened based on that alone. At least you won't have to watch him galloping 70 yards untouched to knock it in your net. He should have been buried on the half way line like Maradona that time.

Afcgotsoul, your observations about Thierry's debut reminded me of something similar. I can't be exactly sure it was his debut, but certainly a very early outing for Peter Schmeichel at Crystal Palace and I remember some of us having real concerns. I don't think he managed to catch a single cross that night - things did not look promising!!!! Mind you at the same ground a few years later we witnessed Eric's majestic Kung Fu kick. In the pub after we were shell shocked. He's in serious trouble and of course he was. Still us seagulls kept following the trawler. Renaldo's wink that led him to being so vilified had a predecessor in my mind. Perhaps you were there Brian but I clearly saw Tony Adams do exactly the same thing following Cantona's dismissal at Highbury. It incensed me and as you can see I've never forgotten it. Probably made little difference to the result, victories at Highbury were so infrequent I can hardly recall them. Might need snakepitlj to put some skin on the bones of my recollections.

I wasn't there but yes he did wink. But I took it as a "that's a turn up - it'll make our job easier now". I was in Italy drinking grappa with the father of the hotel owner on the night we lost 4-2 at Highbury 2002-3 ?? whilst we watched Juve on the tele. He didn't speak English and my Italian isn't so hot but we got by with our versions of French. That was in Sirmione - a really nice place at the southern end of L. Garda. And the grappa, ice cold from the freezer like syrup - just like good quality vodka. I don't drink now though - I was enjoying it too much.
Cost me a fortune to keep up with the game on my phone. So you do beat us there from time to time.

(better than his replacement ian walker)

Yes Mel - that's where it's from alright. But as far as I know the true flamenco package of playing, singing and dancing is quite a complicated and traditional world that few "foreigners" ever get into. So that's why we get the show at the hotel with the dancer and the guitar player in somewhat commercialised performances. The Spaniards are very proud of their customs. So be careful if you take flamenco up - do it right or they might not like it .......
Better to go for Salsa - Brazilians couldn't care less.

:)Take no notice of Brian, Mel the Spanish are one of the friendliest lots of people you could meet especially around Seville and they would take you to their heart, for some reason they particularly like blond haired girls( my daughter is 2 inches shorter than she should be as they were forever patting her head and Salsa dancing is very hard (I know) thought I would be alright as I've been known to shake a tail feather or two, but having the memory of a goldfish let me down.

Steve,
Have you been talking to my wife ? Cos that's what she tells everyone to do.
Agree about the people down there, and in Spain in general. Madrid is a possible exception - but then people from capital cities are generally more objectionable.
Brian (from London)
