have made a point of listening to S.O.T.S (as Brian Matthews calls it) whenever i can for about 10 yrs. now and he always plays something good, and whats really interesting ,he has been doing a saturday morning radio show(Saturdat Club---Easy Beat etc.)in some form or other and knows so many off the wall facts about even the most obscure artists. well worth a listen love and stuff TonyC.

Totally agree Tony, and I try to listen to Sots whenever I can, having done so for years. O.K. it's not a soul show but it's still pretty easy on the ear and the programme is usually smattered with sounds you'd never expect to hear on Radio 2. The shows compilers are clearly imaginative and knowledgable but despite this I had my concerns at the end of last year when Brian Matthews was ill. Those that filled in for him such as Sandie Shaw, Joe Brown, Suzi Quatro were absolutely soulless and dire. I certainly would not be listening to it now had they continued. Occasionally the show features a U.S. top twenty from the sixties and these programmes are more enjoyable than ever. As Tony says you might be surprised to see what interesting facts you can discover about sixties artists and their recordings.

Brian Mathews - wow! Memories from eons ago as a kid in late 50s/early 60s AND on a Saturday morning even then ;D Always played "fresh" sounds not stereotyped at all. Got some early influences from him viz Little Richard Etta James etc Them wa t'daze ;D

Didn't he front the ITV/ATV pop show "Thank Your Lucky Stars" as well? Was ITV's version of Juke Box Jury Have to admit, like me, he's got the face for radio ;D

Radio 2 - this Thursday at 11:00 pm (1 of 4). And I quote from the Radio Times..
"Ronnie Spector explores the rise and fall and immeasurable influence of doo-wop - the close harmony rhythm and blues style of singing that emerged in the 1950s in the streets of New York City and Philadelphia, and which inspired the ex-Ronettes star to sing in the first place. etc."
Starts with a look at the American gospel goups of the late 4ts ..... Swallow, Ravens, Orioles...
Birds , Cars , Gemstones and Plants eh ?
