Having seen the flyers, and having been told a little about the place, decided to pay this venue a visit. Arrived at the venue at 9.00 , about 60 in , this went up to approx 100. Crowd was mixed ,mainly soulies and a few handbaggers but all over 40.(the nearest i can say is like early Drax) Venue - easily held the crowd, with a few seats to spare. I took one look at the floor and horrors - wasn't wooden, and looked to be as at Horncastle,no need to worry - although a bit bumpy it was a good surface. The only thing that did bother me was it was quite well lit- not what i'm used to,but this didn't bother the obvious regulars. There was always space to dance, even though at times there was 30+ on the floor. Music - expected a night of well known oldies, motown and youth club sounds . I was very impressed - a superb mix of sounds was played including about a dozen tracks i've never heard played out, and a lot of very good underplayed but known oldies. The true faith was definatley adhered to Overall - a good night out - THIS VENUE DOES WAS IT SAYS (other promotors promoters take note ) .Ash has a well run friendly venue here. When asked if the wife and friend would like to go again a big yes was replied. So it looks like another visit is in order Dave

Glad you enjoyed it Dave - cheers We have only used this venue for past 9 months to raise money for new dance floor however, too many agencies involved with centre so looking elsewhere all the time. Got Thurcroft in mind, wooden floor with bar in separate room. The best venue by far at our end is The Lyric Theatre, massive wooden sprung dancefloor, hall holds ni on 300 souls with balcony chill out room snack bar and huge stage - you'll see it at Xmas m8 Sat 27th Dec. Its expensive to hire thats why I only use at Chrimbo Thanx again 4 kind words and no doubt we'll bump into each other around the area

PS: The only down side to the night was someone very kindly knicked my 2 t shirts that were pinned on the welcome board - some people eh? Mind you when they check 'em out they'll see my name is printed on the back of both of them - now let's see them walk out ;D

Ash - these were not kind words , they were just how I found it. Less lighting and you could have a real biggie on your hands. Very few venues stick to the true faith these days, and people are still prepared to travel. - sad to hear about the t shirts, was a good welcoming gesture

Ash ... thanks for a brilliant night as usual .. Met up with a few old friends from way back and also made some new ones. I can understand Dave's point about the floor and lighting but I guess I've got used to both by now so it's not a problem for me. Unfortunately I missed the spot by guest dj Dave but resident Keith was again on top form and the other guest dj Alan kept the floor filled with a great selection of oldies. Had a brief chat with him later in the evening and was impressed both by his knowledge and willingness to share it. Hope any locals (or members willing to travel) read this and are encouraged to attend. It's not the biggest venue I've been to but it's certainly one of the friendliest and I don't know of anyone who's been who didn't enjoy the night so come on guys and girls and give your support in August Obviously it's not my place to say (not being a promoter) and it's an old point which has been aired many times but as you know Saturday clashed with another local night which may have adversely affected Soul Galore's attendance and to paraphrase something which has been said before "You can only be in one place at a time" so someone who has put a lot of effort into promoting their venue loses out but I guess only the promoters concerned can rectify this. (Rant over) Just as a final point...... I hope whoever took the T-shirts gets what they deserve ....

Thanx Jim - get your drift mate that's why I ONLY organise half a dozen for the year - and hopefully they are decent nights. Far too many functions and many can't justify existence. I been doing Soul Galore for over 12 years - its got faults its got the expected "knockers" BUT its got SOUL WITH NO EGOS =- it has got a light fingered git but thats another story! Thanx for rescuing me with Martin from Exeter (I owe you one) but you both like the same group ;D Had a good natter with Keith(Dizzy) as well and have e-mailed you separately. Brenda back tomorrow ;D
