those with a natural superstitious streak running through their minds may have thought friday 13th was a day to avoid putting any faith in a northern soul venue.
lucky for all those who attended the right track soul club's event on this evening promoters martin and tracy calderbank were prepared to laugh in the face of supersticion.
with regular dee-jays like martin himself, one of peterborough's finest andy (smudge) smith, legends of the scene brian rae (only recently out of hospital) and tony clayton one would have thought they were enough to put the friday 13th jinx to bed but.... add to these the two guests marco martinelli and annesley's pete taylor one just knew it was going to be a night to remember.
it was a night to celebrate the right tracks 7th anniversary, some may say that all anniversaries are destined to succeed but being an anniversary in itself these days is not enough.
a free badge (which was duly provided) isn't enough to attract the paying public into one's own venue when the choices seem infinite in this scene of ours.
so why was this night so special, such a success....
the dee-jay line up not only promised but delivered top quality 60s northern soul music, most of the sounds were well known but not from the oft opened over-played box that some venues seem to dip into.
each dee-jay played to the floor and to his strengths, and the floor loved it.
as for the floor.... one would be very hard pressed to find such a fine sprung dance floor as this in the whole of east anglia, mix these two eliments with the paying public's apitite for said music, for dancing and for socialising and one has all the ingredients of a great night.
martin and tracy have a winning combination at this venue in peterborough, a seventh anniversary is some proof of it's longevity and i, like many others will certainly return here very, very soon.
when one stumbles on such an atmospheric venue full of friendly people dancing their dances it's hard not to return.
the anniversary finished at 1:00 am and for the whole evening the sprung dance floor was bouncing with the weight of dancers dancing, even the last five records had over 55 people on the floor to each of them, i know, i counted.
here's to the next seven years and wishing the right track club all the best, they don't need good luck because luck has nothing to do with this gem of an event in peterborough, a city with so much northern soul history.
next event, friday 8th of august, i have a feeling that will not be an unlucky date either.
