The Square Peg, Skegness Sat june 21st 2008 This event was held no more than 800 yards from Dave Raistricks Upfront on the Seafront ptII, but their closeness in distance was overshadowed by their distance in content. Upfront, rare 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Y2K ‘Peg’ known 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Y2K As one who had been to both venues told me at the end of the night “I went to the upfront for the music and came to the ‘Peg’ for the great time and neither disappointed”. Although I am not part of the team that promotes this event I feel a little bit awkward writing a review about it because I’m involved in the capacity of one of the residents, but, excellent night, music, dancing & dance floor, total friendliness and even a raid by the DS, just like the old days except that most of the town centre pubs in Skegg were raided this night, all part of the general Policing in the town. If one doesn’t believe me about how good it was just ask those who were at the ‘Peg’ who came from Nottingham, Bradford, Barnsley, Peterborough, Boston, Lincoln, St. Ives and many, many other places. They’ll all tell you, the Square Peg, a unique venue with a unique feel. You gotta try it at least once before you die. coops images on ournorthernsouls.org

was playing GQ over 20 years ago, not modern and if teddy 'p' did a modern record it'd have to be beamed down from heaven and as for frankie vali!!!!!! but i think dawn meant no 60s not really no oldies. but thanks for your time dawn, your set added to the mix of the night perfectly

Hmm Ginger Taylor would be turning in his helicopter, Nice that he still plays it though, even though it goes on for ages. And a bugga to dance to. As for Teddy P, he has taken to rapping with the angels you know maybe they have rap sessions in them there clouds...is that what makes thunder ?

Thanks JJ 'Like her' remember it well too from the clee days, havent heard it played about so much these days around these parts, so thought I would make an investment in it and try it out again, after hearing it on the net.It is a bugger to dance too, I agree and Jim the spins legs were a bit tired and he couldnt manage it all....lol ;D but none the less I enjoyed heariing it again, as did a few others who made comment. Its nice to spot old clee pier/gardens boys and girls who IMHO have the best taste in music. Had to titter to myself though about the ones who refered to a couple of tracks as ''some sort of northern rave music'' lol Frankie Valli is the polinski re mix or re edit, only released within the past 2-5 years. Teddy P track always comes under the 'modern' category and Was also a tune spun upstairs at the gardens by his modern royalness (in our house) Rick Scott. GQ again comes under the modern index regardless of age simply and purely because of its vibe. Don't forget JJ 5th July some of these and many others will be played at the ELSC. (blatent plug from me)

Enjoyed my brief inaugaural visit to the Peg, good to catch up with everyone there. Something of a Tardis of a place, I walked along the sea front earlier in the day to find it, it is one of those "blink and you'll miss it" entrances, but it goes back a long way inside. Danced to a few tunes Coops played while I was there.
Relieved to have missed the raid as I had gone back to Upfront by then but heard the story on the night.

why? did you have some gear on you mate? .... just asking LOL at Coops, of course not, asking that to someone that doesn't even drink alcohol. ;D Just saying I know I'd have felt nervous if I'd been there when it happened, mainly in case tempers started among other punters and the atmosphere as a whole got bad, like with the Whitby lockout situation two years ago.
