The following is the subject of a search by someone who contacted me for information.
I did a little of my own on line research this weekend re: Shane Martin and the results are truly amazing.
I went to a site that deals with the New Orleans [my former home town] teen scene in the 60s and 70s. I found a ref to Shane from an old girlfriend who met up with him and his wife at their high school reunion. She mentioned that Shane 's real name is Neale Lungren and that he played with a band in the 60s were called The Twilights.
I then Googled Neale Lungren and came wup with a web site[circa 2004] which said that he resides in Atlanta Georgia and had just completed a new cd with the Cypress ensemble entitled Diamond or Stone.
In the bio section , LUNGREN confirmed that in the 60s he recorded as a solo vocalist for Columbia and Epic records and was produced by Jason Darrow.
In the 1970s Neale was a songwriter and vocalist for Manchild and recorded an album for
capital records.
In the 1980s he became a Benedictine monk! and recorded more music---this time an album entitled 'Harvest Songs for three voices'pub by the monastery.
In the 1990s he recorded a musical documentary of his tenure as spiritual director for Ridgeview Institute, in Georgia entitled 'Breaking Open.'
After a pilgrimage to India Neale organised a world music ensemble dedicated to the performance of 14th century Sufi poetry and song.
In 2004 he went to Coastal Carolina Collete and gave a keynote speech on the music of western and eastern Mysticism entitled 'Rhythms of the Heart'.
I wonder if Shane Martin/Neale Lungren has any idea that one of his old recordings from the 60s is so popular in England on the Northern Soul Circuit?
Hope this info had been useful to shed some light on the 'unknown' Shane Martin.
Anyone know of any more lost souls located
