Moved from other post as this is a review Doug. and we are not in the forum for taking sides just souling together wherever possible. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi I dont usually write on these sites but feel i ought to tonight! I have been on the "scene" some 34 years (yes i know that makes me old but aren't we all!) and before that i was brought up with nighter boys playing music at our youth club, so feel i have a legitimate right to voice my opinion! I have just got home from the Duke in Lincoln having had a brilliant night! The place was heaving, despite the heat the dance floor was never empty. Rob and Stu did brilliant spots, with wiggy, Andy, and crew supporting with equally brilliant sounds, even the old brigade said it was the best soul night they had been to in years! ( by old brigade i mean one of the original Duke DJ's) high praise in itself!! I still love the music as much now as i did all those moons ago, so whoever thinks its in decline is wearing some kind of blinkers because it certainly wasnt tonight! I say to Rob and team GO Boys enjoy it and whilst you keep getting packed dance floors, it certainly is not in decline! Ii know no one off this thread but please give the lads a chance they are putting some good nights on and only trying to please the crowds they attract! Enough said now I will leave you all to ponder this ....they are all good lads and enjoy what they are doing I'm sure none of them wanted to upset anyone, what happened to the old paradigm KEEP THE FAITH ? Thats all these lads are doing! Doug Hall was the guest DJ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- oh bugger forgot to mention Paul! Sorry Paul your spot was just as good as the rest!

LOL Edited not a retort on the review but a need to move forward. I too have the right to reply to this regardless of age sojo1 Soul is certainly in decline at established soul venues around the country read the reports but hey, thats for the soul in decline thread. I nearly got the violins out reading that, as it was so heart touching. These people have nothing but disrespect for the soul scene, in moving into someone elses already established venue, and that my friend is out of order, a line that should never have been crossed but hey .... '' they are all good lads and enjoy what they are doing I'm sure none of them wanted to upset anyone, what happened to the old paradigm KEEP THE FAITH ? Thats all these lads are doing!'' but they did upset people didnt they. those people they did upset unfortunately dont seem to have the guts to speak out, unlike me .... Nice reveiw though sojo1, AD-LIB was always a nice small intimate venue, thats why it was a great success see The answer given by Adlib promoter in other thread.

The Adlib was and always will be about 6ts club music and wasnt at the forefront of Northern Soul but as previously stated the venue was used 2 or 3 times a week to play out the music and the event on Sat night was a total different batch of music, I have to admit never going there in the early days of 6ts music and still go anywhere where people wish to play music and invite me to appear whether at one venue or the other, this does not mean i am taking sides ,but would be a mediator in trying to sort out the disagreements and heartache we are all here for soul music no matter what age, decade or quality/quantity pm or email and lets get together to bring Lincoln to where it should be, back at the forefront of soul/dance in the east midlands, the place is big enough are the people.

Still bad ethics Doug using an already established venue, Ad lib had played northern there, I know as a regular attendee, and have djayed there a couple of times myself, anyway Im sure it doesnt really matter anymore, its obvious from the lack of replies to this and the soul in decline thread, those that have caused all the hassle despite their phones ringing off the hook to each other, have yet to come on here or other forums to put their case or side of the story forward. I would however like to take this opportunity to say that the two main soul venues in Lincoln being the Naval Club and Grafton House, do communicate, quite effectively thank you, and the named promotors have no problems what so ever with each other or their venues, it appears to be those who are transistion in the middle there, that for their own reasons choose to peeve people off by the continual back stabbing, derogatory remarks about other established venues already here, that I object too and I will freely discuss these issues with them face to face. Is that big enough for you?

Well I'm a bit confused by this thread. Am I right in thinking Doug has cut some of the first post from elsewhere? If so, whose post is it cut from, and is he someone known to the forum? And how much of that post is Doug's, how much Mr Anonymous? So "Wiggy...supported with brilliant sounds" did he? Whose records was he playing? Onto Doug's second post: So you DJ'd at this event then Doug? That surprises me a little on the one hand, but explains something on the other, in that I was told beforehand that an "Adlib DJ" was playing at this event. Was even told that my name was linked to it, which pissed me off big time as I have far too much respect for Glenn to even consider dealing him such a stab in the back!!! Quote: "and still go anywhere where people wish to play music and invite me to appear" Very noble, I'm sure! But tell us Doug: which events do you go to where you are not invited to play? Which events do you support just because you love the scene? I hope my comments/questions reflect my correct understanding of the thread... can't be sure, as I often find Doug's posts slightly hard going - no offence! ;D
