Looking for local soulies from everywhere - get out and support your local soul nights b4 they too feel the force of the credit crunch and have to fold. Then you'll all be back on here trying to find a soul night nearby Been to half a dozen venues this past 6 months and found numbers well down, am I choosing the wrong venues? Its happening at mine as well so is it a soul recession after the boom & bust of past 10 years Where are you local soulies

hi ash, just lately ive been watching events being put up on forums and imo there seems to be a lot more being cancelled due to lack of numbers. im wondering if we are going full circle where only the hardy will survive with the resukt that venues will be far fuller than has been the case in these past yrs. what do you think? bill

Could b right m8 I only do 8 max for year and this year going for 6 Hopefully quality NOT quantity Been going 14 years now and seen SOOOOOOOOOO many venues come and go that it gets embarrasing. I know pubs are getting in on the action as they too have to offer something different to get punters in - market needs I guess? Past 2 years have seen so many venues starting within easy reach of others and without a thought for other promoters or punters. I have good rapport with Horncastle & Retford but their nights dont really affect attendance at mine. Locally can't get south yorks promoters together to balance things - its too easy to put soul nights on monthly 1st or last weekend etc etc but if people would talk everyone would benefit - or have I got me rose tinted glasses on again Look at Lincoln this past year - all the bad vibes from 70s/80s revisited

:)Its amazing how many places there are now and its easy to see how many will fail. Even my local has got in on the act and runs a 'northern soul night' on a Sunday. Admittedly the landlord is just trying his best to drum up custom but it just doesn't really work listening to songs off his ipod (on the way to work one morning etc) There is nothing better than a good venue with a full dance floor, but dwindling attendances due to excessive nights means that people returning to the scene or new fans will be put of going again if on their first night there are only 15 people there. I don't want to sound elitist but it is one of my top bugbears that promoters can't get together and stop the overuse and others can't just support local nights and try to influence them from within rather than try to set up alternative/rival nights. (Steps down from soapbox)

Right on Steve ;D There are promoters/punters who dont/wont go to other venues cos of egos or what they've heard or who they don't like 4 whatever reason - and hey I've no doubt I'll be on their lists
BUT
I DO support other local venues and have even ventured into Notts Derbys and this year Lincs is on me list
The good guys will recognise this and the others........well
