Sweet Soul, Newark
Three Words, one sentence and two truisms, It’s in Newark and it has plenty of Sweet Soul.
This event also had plenty of people, not rammed but more than enough to make for an excellent night (not so many venues can make this boast these days) and three resident dee-jays who compliment each other by their respective favoured genre.
Jez Langley, local lad with soulful tunes bridging the decades, varying in tempo but constant in quality, top quality. Jez is living proof that one doesn’t have to spend a fortune to provide a set that sounds like it costs a fortune. Andy Jackson, for those who may not know, Andy can also play some very nice sixties, I say this because, after thirty years of dee-jaying people are talking about his modern sets like he’s a new (and talented) kid on the block. Half true, he certainly isn’t new but is very talented in spotting what’s what in the modern arm of this scene of ours. Then there’s Doug Hall, a bit like everybody’s favourite uncle, always bringing something to the party, enthusiasm, a big smile and always one or two very pleasant surprises during his across-the-board sets.
A great night, a great venue (although make sure you wear your slipperiest of shoes due to a ‘talc ban’, great crowd and Sweet Soul music.
The next event is on Nov 14th when Nottingham’s own Rob Smith will be guesting.
