this was not a night for cynics, for bitching, for stamping ones' feet if the 'wrong' genre was played.this was not a night for trying to out flyer other promoters, for talking 'up' venues or even talking 'down' others, this was a night of celebration, happiness, friendliness, togetherness, and dare i say it, a night of joy.
tributes and presents all but crushed the large council-type event table at the entrance to this sports hall venue.
sitting at that table with family and friends was 'our' joy from barnsley, she was holding court and all had come to not so much bow but certainly nod, smile, kiss and hug this very, very popular lady on her 50th birthday.
i don't hold much with counting, i judge the success of an event by the comments, smiles and actions of those who attend.
in this case, the comments, smiles and positive actions were in abundence multiplied by about 400 and then you may guess just what a great night it was.
joys' husband stephen (Yocky to you and me) walked round peacock-like the proud man he is to have such a lovely lady as his wife.
it was an event which mirrored many postive aspects of those successful all-nighters in the 70s, not just the grandeur, the music, the dancing but also the friendliness and togetherness.
as for me i was and still am very proud to have been asked to come along and honoured to be asked to spin a few tunes next to the dee-jay team of dave knight, ian 'gee', mick moylans, sam evans, yocky and who ever rounded the night off after we made out way back to the east coast.
thank you joy, a wonderful night for a wonderful lady.xx
