This is NOT easy! 5 is not enough to list all the ones that pop into your mind after you have typed the list! Still.... here goes.... at the mo, they are....(in no particular order!)
1- The Salvadors - stick by me baby 2 - Etta James - seven day fool 3 - Don Thomas - come on train 3 - Get Out - harold melvin 4 - The Magic Touch - melba moore 5 - Im Fallin In Love - Bettye Swann
followed closely by long standing faves like Per-son-ally - bobby paris, moody woman - jerry butler, and queen of fools - barbara mills, Its torture - maxine brown, Girl dont make me wait - bunny sigler... and many others I remember from years gone by! ( In fact, Al Wilsons The Snake will always hold a place in my heart too, as its the song that first got me into the Northern scene in a big way!! So who cares if its over played!!) Love one at mo but cant remember who its by, think its called Loves Gone Bad... any help??
There you go! Just my opinion at this moment in time! Kat.

Have you tried the New Censation's version of 'First Round Knockout'? It's not quite as jerky or is that as funky, as Joe Fraziers but runs smoother. A Van McCoy item which I feel doesn't fit comfortably with Motown.
If we're looking for boxers, try Ernie Terrell's daughter Jean, or even Cassius Clay on 'Stand By Me'!

s0ul45 - you've had two bottles already haven't you ? Jean was Ernie's sister.
Keeping up a family link - Carolyn Franklin recorded a version of S&G's "The Boxer".
And I'd like to thank chrisrose for making me remember "I'll be loving you" - Soul Brothers Six B-side to the more commercial "Some kind of wonderful" - and far, far better.

Yeh. you're right on both counts. Maybe I'll make that three counts because there is no doubt that 'I'll Be Loving You' is a classic and what was so odd was that when Atlantic re-issued 'Some Kind Of Wonderful' they didn't put it on the other side.
P.S. Respond to this and become a full member!!!!

I think the most famous professional boxer of all time surely deserves a mention here BERRY GORDY. Although there could be some debate about this in boxing circles, in our world it is beyond dispute.
'You Beat Me To The Punch' and 'You Really Got A Hold On Me' were two of his early successes and there's little doubt that in his mind 'It's So Hard Being A Loser'. With 'I'll Keep Holding On', and 'First i Look At The Purse' i thinkI've just about managed to provide a boxing/Motown top five!

Joe should've stuck to boxing. His version of Looky, Looky is nasty and there's one too many Looky's. Stick to the O'jays, it''s THE version. Who would want to take on Eddie Levert in a bout of singing?
