Sunday's alldayer at the Rolls Royce club in Derby was another first visit to the venue. They went for a more connoisseur set of lesser played tunes in both the Northern and Modern fields, though will still throw some oldies in here and there too. I expected this given my previous nights at the same promoters' other night Willington, there was something for everyone and this reflected in a dancefloor being busy most of the time. Great atmosphere in a good all round across the board night, which is my favourite type. Rolls Royce regularly runs on the first Friday in the month plus Sunday dayers on some Bank Holiday weekends while Willington is third Saturdays in the month. Alan

Rolls Royce is a super soul night, very relaxed ,low pressure, and full of really nice people , a good mix of sounds from the obscure to the very well known, the large dance floor is always full,...... well 95% of the time .........and its got air conditioning too! some will say it's got too many "hand baggers" but the full dance floor tells no lies with all enjoying the music, and the great attendance putting some "hardcore" northern nights to shame... oxo

Found an old thread with the venue name but no date, so might as well add to the older thread as create a brand new one for the sake of it. Was back there this Easter Sunday. Hadn't been back to Rolls Royce throughout 2007 but was lucky for this Sunday to correspond with the same weekend as Bentinck on Friday (just posted a write up on that). As I got there, friends from many areas seemed to have converged on Derby for this event, had seen in advance that Sean Chapman (from Wales of course) would be guesting, saw one couple from Bournemouth and other people from further away than I'd normally have expected to see there. One DJ even gave a mention to someone being down from Scotland. Sam Evans and Andy Baskett were excited not only in looking forward to Skegness, but the new "A1 Soul" event at Grantham the following Saturday which they are running with Barry Cooper. This was the first time I'd seen the second room at this venue, the main room was very hot especially if you danced too long in one go so it was nice to pop through for the easier pace. As I hadn't seen some people for a long time I did take time to catch up with them, thus pacing the dancing anyway, and divided time between the two rooms. Didn't know some of the modern room DJs personally, though they had some great tunes to play, I did know Willington resident Rob Kay, had also been chatting to him at Bentinck.
some will say it's got too many "hand baggers" but the full dance floor tells no lies with all enjoying the music, and the great attendance putting some "hardcore" northern nights to shame...
Looking at this quote, true I think the regular monthly nights do draw a more localised crowd but the Sunday events on Bank Holiday weekends, as per the examples I've given, draw more travelling soulies from surprising distances. A good mix of sounds and people overall, rounding off a good double for the weekend.
