Luck was finally in for me to make it to the Bentinck Miners Welfare at Kirkby in Ashfield, with Easter weekend falling such that Good Friday was the 3rd in the month, to make for an ideal weekend for a visit home to Derby, as there would also be the Rolls Royce all-dayer in Derby itself on the Sunday (seperate review to follow). Pete ("Soulbrother" on Coops' board, don't think he's on here) was there at the door to greet me, soon found and sat with Coops, Netty, Biz and Chris. Not many people danced in the early sets, it was just good to sit and chat for a while, also mingled with the Notts locals I knew over the other side of the room, all getting excited with just a week to go to Skegness. Nige Brown was guesting, I've known him for a few years now, both as a great DJ and personal friend, and know he can usually fill a floor, and he did well there. I enjoyed popping through to the small modern room too, there is not much room to dance in there but nice to hear the underplayed modern tunes. Liked "Give a Smile" by Betty Wright, an album only track, from the album also including "I Like Your Loving". The last half hour certainly was party time as the Notts locals got me up for Jive-type dances, maybe not normally associated with Northern, but bless 'em, that's them in party mood for you, they always do that at Annesley too. ;D
