As I'm packing equipment away the Chair of Committee came up and verbally abused me n Keith and told us never to come back I DID thank him for his diplomatic retort and then he explained that his venue doesn't like talc on floor nor does it like punters drinking their raffle prize and leaving the evidence Ah well their loss, so am looking elsewhere even though 2 weeks ago I agreed to run a "soul night" for their adopted charity - they can whistle now unless I get an apology And the secret supply drinkers were 2 soulies who promote another gig in south yorks - it gets better . Roll on 27th Dec @ The Lyric My guess is someone sat on his special seat at the bar. What an utter twonk.

Great Committes and stuff cause more problems as they only look at the short term and not the business it brings in.

My point exactly Doug - it was only our 3rd gig there with best turnout so lets see in a couple of more days if they have been in touch. Talc is now an official H&S hazard so if I see any flashing lights I can rip them down maybe? ;D

Sat 15th was a good night with 10 regular attendees of mine at the function. OFB Band from Barnsley played some good stuff - keyboards n trumpets were on overdrive cos saxophonist couldn't make gig still it didn't spoil gig and they didn't just play mid 60s stax atlantic blues brothers commitments stuff - howz about the ubiquetious "Snake" and "Ghost" and "Out On Floor" and "Right Track" and they were all pretty good. Nice to have a night off for me as well and a different soul night with meal and live band - and I never missed a beat ;D

Spot on Nick, he is a bit of a urine head tho! ;D Just a thought Ash has he run it by the rest of the committee ? might be worth a strongly worded letter to complain and a claim for the cost of annual flyers to the tune of £100 might ruffle a few feathers.

Sorry I missed all the commotion Ash (must've been just after we left). With an attitude like his that committee chairman doesn't deserve to have anyone use his venue ever again but here's hoping everything gets smoothed over before 2009. BTW I have a good idea who the "secret supply drinkers" are .... maybe someone will do the same at their venue and B***s it up for them. In any case I reckon I'll vote with my feet and not go to any more of their nights. On the plus side it was a cracking night with good spots from all 3 Dj's ... and it was good to put a face to the name at last (Hi Caveman)

Ash just don’t know what to say only some people don’t know what they got till its gone, I know you have put a lot of work in to this venue, and I know you suffer a lot with venues in your area clashing. But I feel sure you will be back after your 13th anniversary on the 27th Dec “quick plug” Bigger and better then ever in a new venue. Have a great anniversary mate sorry I can’t be with you but I will be home in Wales until the New Year, chin up mate.
Jim nice to meet you to mate see ya out there

Rawmarsh Cricket Club was a combined soul night & 50th birthday party (with buffet) so it was a bit of a mixed night. They booked Ginger Taylor to DJ as well so can only presume the birthday person was a soulie? Anyhow only stayed an hour but was good stuff being played out - nothing that rare but good solid dance stuff Headed over to Darnall Victory Club where numbers were really thin on the ground, neither Roger or Charlie(promoters) had any idea why. Was a pity cos they gave VIP membership to certain people(including yours truely) and a Xmas Special CD with individual fotos on - mine keeps the grandkids away from the fire! ;D Really good crowd there, including Syd & Cheryl, Barry KGB and Carl - despite lack of numbers those in attendance were dancers so had a good time. Thanx again Victory Club. I'll post your 2009 dates on calendar lads.
