Soultime re Jimmy Ruffin..I Got to let you go Is this the same tune as Martha Reeves and the Vandellas...was the B side of either Jimmy Mack or Third Finger Left Hand...I'll have to check my copy, (eventually),the bulk are all crated up, apart from a couple of 100, we moved a 4 years ago and still haven't got anywhere to put xxxx number of singles!!!!!, didn't at other place, used to dig a few out of loft when needed a change.

Dandare
Have a look at the thread on the general board titled "I gotta let you go". It's interesting.
I think you'll find that "Jimmy Mack" and "Third finger" were on the same slab of vinyl both on Gordy (US) and Tamla Motown here.

Got to disagree, think Martha's has more get up and go, Jimmy sounds a bit wet , the sound lacks that certain something...

Hi Bill, 'Happy Landing' is the 'b' side of 'You Really Got A Hold On Me' on both of the U.S. copy on Tamla and the U.K. copy on Oriole. It's also on the 'Fabulous Miracles' LP. It's a typical jerky type Smokey composition from 1962. Hope that helps.

Alright coops I'll try and steer clear of the keyboard. Incidentally of the submissions on this site so far these are the top Motown choices:- Baby Hit And Run The Contours Heaven Must Have Sent You The Elgins Little Darlin' Marvin Gaye Shake Me Wake Me The Four Tops My Love Is Your Love The Isley Brothers (Just a little bit of license on the last two - they've got two votes along with a lot of others!) There's no TMG number for the Isleys!!!

Welcome to the club klubb123! Some good titles here. The Supremes is an underrated track and I think the best of several versions. The Contours is a masterpiece and I'm looking forward to seeing them sing it live at Prestatyn in October. (They'd better!!!)

back in 1972, it was dinner time, on the dinner break from school,i was at a mates house, you like motown jim, he played an edwin starr lp, side 2 track 3 my weakness is you, the record made me sit up in my dodgy velour armchair, the percussion, drums, bouncing, the horns blaring, and edwins soulful vocal i was hooked, made him play it 3 times,,, i need to get this record, i did and the rest is history.

Some good memories stirred reading through members lists of Motown Favourites. I like a lot of people here got my first taste of soul largely thanks to Mr Gordy and Co. Local Youth Clubs sometime in 1969, my earliest memory of a favourite motown tune would have to be "I gotta Feeling" which many have already mentioned, along with others like "Little Darling", "3rd Finger Left Hand" (which I always preferred over its A side). "When you're young and in Love" has fond memories of being exactly that;o) But for me the stand out for me back then just has to to be the Isley Brothers version of the absolutely brilliant "I Hear a Symphony", gives me goosebumps just typing the title, PURE class then, and NOW. Of course Ive heard many tunes since that have had the same effect but this was back in the day before we had heard the term Northern Soul, and certainly before I had been to "proper" clubs. And to think that there are soul fans who dont regard Motown as "proper" soul? I'd like to Thank the Youth Club DJ's who played Motown (and other soul tunes) in their sets and gave me the bug all those years ago, I was in remission for a good few years as life got in the way, but I wasnt at all unhappy when I had a serious relapse a few years ago.
