Managed to get to 2 events Friday 11th One in SY one just over border in Notts First up The Swan, Worksop - upstairs room in the pub, small yet soulful with Lakey & Barley giving us the usual warm welcome until Barley stated telling me about Lakey's privates - that was TOO warm ;D They played some good stuff in the 2 hours I was there and majority forgotten oldiers - loved One Night Affair Jerry Butler - nice track with nice memories of 70/71. Secondly over to Wickersley Club - FREE entry. My second visit here and remains consistent with attendance and quality of sounds. Bit of everything covering all genres so summat for everybody. Sat with Spike & lovely Manda in company of non political soulies which I love. Both worthy of a visit if you're in the area - now you've had a write up get thesen ova t'Lyric on't 2nd Jan, it'lll be rayt gud, al sitheee

Ditto this weekend regards snow and lack of soul. Had to content myself with trying to cobble together a CD full of songs with "Heart" in the title.

Managed to get to 2 soul nites this Saturday 23rd First up The Grange, Kimberworth, Rotherham Quite a few in including Syd & Cheryl & Dave, not sure on numbers cos it was my first time. Small dancefloor decent sounds, bar area was packed all the time I was there - leads me to think was it a night for soulies or an excuse for a good p**s up? Secondly went to Victory Club, Darnall, Sheffield Usual warm welcome from Rog&Charlie and good to see Barry Holland having been like ships in the night these past 3 months. Grav & Barley from Worksop made their guest DJ debuts here and did a gr8 job - dancefloor full majority of the time. Well done lads! See u at Lyric on 20th March lol

Sat 30th went to the relaunch of The Embassy in Sheffield run by Barry(KGB) and Doug(Transport). Typical first night, quite full, quite good, quite a lot of interested non soulies, cant say handbaggers cos didn't see any on the floor - and yes I was looking ;D The lads dont know if they gonna run at this venue on a regular basis, watch this space as they say. All in all a good night with an eclectic mix of soul on offer.

2 venues this weekend well its been nearly a month.......... Swan @ Worksop - went to see Barley & Grav on their home turf. Decent turnout, decent sounds but its too small a room for me KGB Sheffield - hadn't been here for about a year. Smacks of the 6Ts does this venue, its downstairs, low ceiling, ample wall graffitti and lots of soul and moody RnB. Numbers down (what's new?) but a good night. Bumped into Andy Jones & son, John Moffatt & wife and promoter/DJ good m8 Barry & Ann Holland. I DID manage to avoid the guy doing promotional photo shoot - well who wouldn't? ;D

Went to 3 Horseshoes, Rotherham last Friday. I was accompanied by 12 others - poor turnout indeed, shame Good set played by Andy Jones tho, lots of new-to-me stuff from the RnB stable, cool

Was going to Sitwell Arms Renishaw Friday BUT things changed - babysitting ;D Saturday 25th went to Victory Club Darnall Sheffield. Nice little club with 2 of the nicest promoters in Roger & Charlie. Numbers slightly down on their usual turnout but the dancefloor was kept busy by 5 DJs - Carl Keith Barley Grav & Charlie Thought the sound was a little muffled, well to me it was and turning volume up doesn't help lads ;D Decent night and good to see Steve back on his feet after 7 weeks having BOTH knees done Syd & Cheryl enjoyed themselves as they normally do - all in all a worthwhile visit yet again, try it yourself you might just like it

Fri 27th Aug @ Niagara Suite Sheffield for Barry Holland's 50th Birthday Bash. Place was packed with lots of family and lots of soul folks. Good night saw many old faces and made new acquiantences so all in all nice smashing lovely. ;D Sat 28th Aug @ Victory Club Darnall. Always friendly place but numbers well down. Nice to see Dinnington crowd there well done Dave & Di, Keith & Kath. Met Martin & Kath from Route 61 Soul Club, had a real good natter swopped details and booked 4 guest DJs all at this venue so again positive outcomes ;D And that included the kebab sarnie that Keith bought me at the end of the night!

Sat 23rd Oct was originally going to Grange in Rotherham, plans changed so went to Darnall instead. Steve Myers, Keith Toyne, Charlie & Barry Holland all played good sets and many were oldies. I won the raffle and selected a Kent CD so all in all a decent bight!

Friday 5th Nov went out expecting a "cracker" but disappointed. No names no pack drill - I just don't get these small venues! Why do they do them? Is it cos they get the upstairs room free? Ah well..............
