I notice The Snake is on the dreaded list here.......not my cup of tea......can never understand why the likes of Stuart Maconie insists on dragging it up on Radio 2 when someone requests a Northern sound.....just thinking ,if the lyrics wer'nt so rubbish it might not be such a bad record....

jymbo, it was a time when the term 'northern soul' was commercialised and money was there to be made simple as that It was annoying/embarrasing at the time but I know several people who were 'turned to scene because of records like this, 'the footsie' and the disco demands stuff. The purists would have called them tourists but they are still here and love the music. Every music scene goes through stuff like this and now I look back it just makes me smile and think if I'd had been in Dave McAleer's shoes wouldn't I have done the same If I ever listen to Sking in the snow now its the Laura Pallas version.

I said it before and I'll say it again: Tim Tam and the Turnoffs! no got it wrong The Turnups' errr wait I remember The Turnips!! yeh that's it Tim Tam and the Turnips Musically was the screemin'ist pile of poppy, poop I ever herd at a Northern venue. As for Nicks choices Joe 90 got my vote. With regards these type of very poor musicaly retarded bits of plastic well all I can say it that The jocks should have had more sence, I mean come on some of the sounds played could not have been clased as remotely soulful I could rant about this all day but I wont'

Him and that Miranda Sawyer. Who the f*ck are these people, anyway?

Papa -oo-Mow-Mow must rate as one of the worst sounds of all time. Nine times out of Ten - What's that about?
I remember the first time I went to Wigan in 1974, everyone was raving about "The Larue" by Lada Edmunds Junior. I thought it was awful then, and I still think it's awful today.
Still, as the saying goes - One man's meat is another man's poison

The two records I cringe at are Sugar Dumpling and what I call the clacketty clack song by the Jelly Beans.

Not sure if this belongs in this thread but here goes anyway......... Everyone has their likes & dislikes and to reiterate "One Man's Meat etc"..... Strange how many of the ones mentioned in this thread appear on such things as the NS top 500 compiled by Kev Roberts. Whether it's a true reflection of the top 500 i don't know. Not sure how he decided on the final order/selection as some of his top 500 I personally wouldn't touch with a 10 foot stick. Just goes to show that the spirit of freedom of choice is alive & well. Basically I suppose I'm saying is if you like it then to hell with what anyone else thinks but don't try to force your opinion onto others. As a closing thought if you happened to be listening to a radio show playing Northern Soul and one of the aforementioned was played would you turn it off?

The Playground - Julie Harris......... shows NS at its very worst WTF was that all about? I used to watch ppl dancing to it at the Casino and think "divvies" It was even worse than the dreaded 9 times out of ten.
